Watching: True Blood (Season 1)
I’ve never seen True Blood, and went into it not really knowing much, except for the description.
I’ve finished up season one, and I have a few thoughts, mostly about certain characters.
Sookie is simply not likeable. She is a 25 year old woman, who acts like a toddler. Apparently there is supposed to be something “special” about her, that I assume is connected to her ability, but she just seems stupid and whinny to me. Her acting more like a child, than a grown ass woman, is weird and creepy. Which ups the “ick” factor when Sam treats her like a child, while having a romantic interest in her.
Speaking of Sam… Am I the only one who realizes he is not a decent person, and would make a horrible boyfriend? He is just a jealous, overbearing, control freak, who needs to keep his hands to himself (like when he grabbed Sookie, and ripped off the bandana she had on her neck). I do NOT like him.
Then there is Bill, Sookie’s love interest, and a vampire. He’s just plain boring.
Tara, Sookie’s best friend, isn’t a bad character, but sometimes I’m not sure what to think about her.
It’s a good thing we have Lafayette and Eric, at least they have interesting personalities, and I actually enjoy their screen time.
There have been a couple times where Sookie was listening to the customers at the bar, and a lot of them talked about how crazy her family was. I mean, they really shouldn’t talk, but yeah… Those Stackhouses are crazy as heck.
I think the show is supposed to be a bit campy, but it often comes across as taking itself too seriously, with far too many stupid and annoying characters. BUT they could be worse, and even though I seem to have more complaints than anything else, I am still interested in seeing where this show is going. Let’s see how long I can last with this show. Will I make it through all the seasons?
