Hex: Shards of Fate Online TCG at GenCon 2013
A new MMO TCG from Cryptozoic Entertainment
I was able to stop by the Cryptozoic booth at GenCon, they’ve got quite a few games to try out and buy, but what I was most interested in was the new Hex TCG game that is currently in development.
Hex is an MMO TCG, from what I understand the first such game. Now unfortunately I’ve never had the chance to really get familiar with any TCG games. So I didn’t really know what I was looking at or what I was doing when I played the demo of the game. There was a representative from Cryptozoic there explaining how to play the game, and I’ve got to give him props, he was very patient and helpful as he explained the game, knowing that I had no knowledge of how to play a TCG.
The game is currently in an early Alpha stage, but what I saw looked gorgeous. You could tell there were still some UI elements that were incomplete, but overall what was shown was very polished and the game worked well without any bugs that I could tell. Judging from that, I’m encouraged for the final product to be bug-free.
Now because I’m very unfamiliar with TCG games, I really can’t explain how the game is played and what goes on, however Cryptozoic has put up a very good How To Play video that explains the game very well.
The MMO aspects have me intrigued. There’s guilds, dungeons and raids, lots of the elements you would expect from a normal MMO game. A lot of that is explained on the Hex TCG website in greater detail.
I’m very excited for this game. I’ve always wanted to get into TCGs, and this seems like the perfect way for someone like me to learn this type of game on their own.
