Nerd Nostalgia: The 90s
The 90s was a good time for being a nerd, and lately I have been feeling a lot of nostalgia for that decade.
Gaming:
So much of my life at that time was devoted to video games, some of my favorites included Street Fighter II, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy VII, Sonic, Crash Bandicoot, Warcraft Orcs & Humans, Diablo, Spyro, and Pokemon Red & Blue, and one of my favorites was Legend of Dragoon. I played many more, but those are the first ones I thought of. All those hours spent in front of the TV with a console, or at my PC, or with my GameBoy. Such simple times, I miss them.
TV & Movies:
I wasn’t much of a TV watcher, unless it was anime. You could usually find me watching Sailor Moon, Escaflowne, Pokemon, Cardcaptor Sakura, magic Knight Rayearth, and whatever else peaked my interest. But on the rare occasion I watched “normal” TV I was watching stuff like, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Dinosaurs, Xena, and Gargoyles.
When it came to movies the 90s brought us some classics like, Hocus Pocus, Edward Scissorhands, Anastasia, Hercules, and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Books:
The 90s brought us Harry Potter, a series I will always love (putting aside issues with the author), Animorphs, and of course Goosebumps. I’m sure there were other books I would read, but those were the ones that stand our clearly in my head, and that I still love to this day.
I also had some manga in the 90s, which wasn’t too common yet, they were normally found at Hot Topic. They were made by Pocket Mixx, and one of the first ones I bought was Sailor Moon.
Tech Gadgets:
We had some stuff in the 90s that simply amazed us, and one of my favorites was Tamagachi, like many of us in the 90s, I was obsessed. And, while I didn’t have one, I remember seeing commercials for the late 90s iMac and wanted one simply because I thought they looked cool. One little gadget I had, and thought was neat, were HitClips, looking back now, they seem so… sad… Yet, I still like them somehow (nostalgia!). Beepers were a thing, and were quickly banned in school.
That was how I spent the 90s, playing video games, watching anime, and reading. Those things made that decade livable for me, without them I’d have been lost.
