Watching: Yashahime
Yashahime: Princess Half Demon, is a sequel to the Inuyasha anime series. It’s the story of InuYasha’s and Sesshōmaru’s daughters. The series premiered on Hulu in October 2020, and a new episodes is put up each week.
Plot:
Sesshōmaru’s daughter, four-year-old Towa, is separated from her twin sister Setsuna, and gets stranded in the modern era. Thankfully she comes through the Tree of Ages, where she is found, and adopted, by Kagome’s younger brother Sota, and raised in the modern era.
Back in the feudal era Setsuna loses her memories, and eventually becomes a demon-slayer, working with Kohaku (Sangos brother). Moroha (InuYasha and Kagomes daughter) is a teenage demon bounty hunter. All the girls seem to be separated from their parents, and don’t know where they are.
Ten years after the twins were separated, Setsuna has an encounter with a demon, and Moroha, as a result they come to the modern time through the Tree of Ages, where they are met by Towa (who Setsuna doesn’t remember), and Kagome’s family.
Kagome’s family quickly realize that Moroha must be Kagome and InuYashas daughter. While the girls work on a way to get back to feudal Japan, Sota takes them in, much to his young daughters delight, as she loves the idea of now having three older sisters. Towa, filled with regret for not being there for Setsuna all those years, is determined to get her sisters memory back, and decides to join them in retuning to the feudal era. So in order to restore Setsuna’s memories, the three half demon princesses embark on adventures.
Thoughts So Far:
We are really enjoying the show, can’t wait to see each new episode, and look forward to where it is going. There is no clear answer, yet, as to what happened to our old favorite characters, but there have been some hints, that might be misleading for all we know. Granted, it is a bit frusrating how they are leaving us with so many unanswered questions. SIt also seems Sango and Miroku may have disappeared from the scene as well, but at least their youngest son is with his uncle, working as a demon slayer, and they have Kirara with them.
The show definitely has a similar vibe as InuYasha, so you can feel like you’re back in that world, but at the same time it also feels like something is missing. And we don’t mean the old characters, but yeah, also… the old characters.
