Local Spotlight: Porter Books & Bread

At the time of this posting I work at Porter Books & Bread, but even if I didn’t I would still be mentioning it on the site. As you know, every now and then I like to focus on a local place that I think makes a great hangout spot.

Porter is located in Indianapolis, Indiana at the historic Fort Benjamin Harrison area in Lawton Loop. The building is an old Military barracks, which is pretty damn cool. Porter is a used book store cafe, with a nice relaxing atmosphere.

We bake our focaccia bread and farmhouse loaf fresh everyday. The sandwiches are all named after authors, and they come with chips from Broad Ripple Chip Co.

That’s me! Slicing some focaccia!

My personal favorite sandwiches: The Dante, our Italian sandwich made with ham, salame cotto, red onion, tomatoes, romaine, and basil mayo on our focaccia. My other favorite is the Twain, a Southern-style grilled cheese made with house pickled serrano cheddar cheese spread, pimento-style, on our farmhouse bread.

Porter’s also specialize in biscotti that they make themselves. If you’ve never had biscotti before you should give it a try, It’s really tasty! I usually get myself one everyday to have with hot coffee or tea. My favorite biscotti is the butterscotch pecan.

Porter Books & Bread is a great place to come and just hang out. Grab a cup of coffee as you study, get some work done on your laptop, read a book, or chat with friends.
