Indy Pop Con 2015: Wrap Up
This was only Indy Pop Con‘s second year, and their attendance numbers skyrocketed from the previous year!
Everyone has a different reason for attending a convention, and whatever your reason for attending, Pop Con has it all!
The big draw for Pop Con this year were the special YouTuber guests, Mark, Jack, Wade, and Bob. Because of their enormous popularity we did a separate post on them.
You could meet some of your favorite celebrities, get autographs, photo ops, and sit in on their panels. Some of their celebrity guests included; Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica, Agents of SHIELD), John de Lancie (Star Trek: TNG, My Little Pony), Malcom Goodwin (iZombie). Some actors even held screenings of their movies, Zach Galligan was there with Gremlins, Sam Jones with Flash Gordon, and you could screen Casper Van Dien’s Starship Troopers!
One of the sponsors, and biggest vendors at the convention, were Who North America (an online store). Not only did they bring awesome Doctor Who items you could buy, but they also brought in special guest, Sophie Aldred who played Ace on Doctor Who alongside the 7th Doctor, Sylvester McCoy who was WhoNA’s PopCon special guest last year!
There were some amazing voice actor talents this year, including Troy Baker (The Last of Us, BioShock), Sarah Anne Williams (Sword Art Online, League of Legends, Kill La Kill), Lauren Landa (Attack on Titan, Smash Brothers). They had some interesting panels, like the Voices of Anime & Gaming. Voice acting has always fascinated me, and it was something I had wanted to get into ever since I was child.
One of the fun things you could do at this years Pop Con was go around and try to find 32 trading cards, which featured various PopCon guests. Unfortunately I didn’t try to collect them all, but on Sunday I did go around and try to find as many as I could. The cards were drawn by various artists who were at the convention, and could be found at their booths, and sometimes other places.
Other activities at PopCon included panels with actors, YouTubers, cosplayers, voice actors, comic creators, and more. You could play video and table top games (a post on those soon to come!). Then of course there is the exhibitors hall which had some talented artists, and vendors selling hard to find and imported items. There were after hours activities, including a live action game, and screenings. There were other workshops and panels about podcasting, writing, and more . At Indy Pop Con you are never at a loss for something to explore or do, and there is something for everyone! Sci-fi, anime, fantasy, gaming, comics, art & music. It’s all here!
Local brewery, Scotty’s Brewhouse, was a sponsor, and also joined in on the fun! They had a Pop Con themed menu, a special brew, Portal Ale, and a Scotty’s trading card! They also had the 501st patrolling, and had musical guests Five Year Mission performing!
Many guests and fans took to twitter, and YouTube, to talk about what an amazing time they had at PopCon! Check out what YouTubers Markiplier, JackSepticEye, and The Completionist had to say!
And of course at every convention there are cosplayers! (I wish I had taken more pictures, but I wasn’t roaming the halls as much as I would have liked).
