Creepy Fanboys/girls
We completely understand loving your fandom like crazy, collecting things associated with it, and wanting to meet your favorite celebrities. We are like that too. But if you do get the opportunity to meet your favorite celeb, please don’t be a creep.
You’re a fan, you do not know them personally, even if you feel like you do. Remember, they certainly don’t know you. At all. Not in any way. They appreciate that you really enjoy their work, but you are still a stranger to them. You are one of MANY strangers/fans, who all want to meet them, and have a special moment. So do not be that creepy fan who tries to cop a feel, do not ask for a kiss, or anything else you would not want a stranger to do to you. Seriously, think about it.
If you do cross a line, and ask for a kiss (or whatever), and they tell you “no”, then drop it. Do not push, and push, and push, for them to do what you want. They are clearly uncomfortable doing, whatever it is that you asked them to do, and they have every right to say ‘no’. You’re just being an even bigger creep, and pretty much an asshole, by trying to pressure them into it.
I decided to rant about this a bit because of things I have seen and heard at cons I’ve been to. Most recently I witnessed a fan sitting in on a Q&A, who got picked by the celebrity to ask a question. She told the celeb that when they had their picture taken together earlier that day, she thought about copping a feel, but chickened out. So she asked him if he could whisper something in her ear instead (a quote he says from a show he is on). He firmly replied, “No. That is not going to happen.”. She stood there, going on and on, and pleading with him. Acting as if she had a right to cop a feel, and since she didn’t, the least he could do was whisper in her ear. She didn’t seem to understand what she had wanted to do earlier, and what she was now asking of him was completely inappropriate. And she showed him absolutely no respect by pushing the subject, which of course made him feel increasingly uncomfortable. How could anyone think that behavior is OK?
It’s really very simple. You have no right to touch ANYONE without their permission, celebrities are no different. Being famous doesn’t mean you can violate them, or pressure them into doing something that they have every right to refuse.
